Psoriasis
Gluten Grains (Wheat, Rye and Barley) are Associated with Psoriasis:
Patients with psoriasis often have increased serum levels of IgA antibodies to gliadin [a protein in gluten]
G. Michaelsson et al, Br J Dermatol. 1993 Dec;129(6):667-73.
http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1365-2133.1993.tb03329.x/abstract
> "It was recently observed that in six patients with psoriasis and one with palmoplantar pustulosis, with newly discovered gluten intolerance, a gluten-free diet had a remarkable effect on the skin lesions."
> levels of serum antibodies to gliadin were found to be "significantly higher" on average in patients with psoriasis than without
Vitamins A, D and B, Minerals, Gluten-Free Diet, Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Sunlight (UVB--possibly due to vitamin D) May Improve Psoriasis:
"Nutritional supplementation may provide a viable treatment alternative in patients with psoriasis. Randomized, controlled trials have shown the effectiveness of topical vitamin A and D derivatives, intravenous omega-3 fatty acids, oral inositol, and various combined therapies. Dual therapies of ultraviolet B phototherapy and fish oil, retinoids and thiazolidinediones, and cyclosporine and a low-calorie diet were effective in the treatment of psoriasis in randomized, controlled trials. This contribution also reviews the potential negative effect of alcohol and the potential positive effects of vitamin B(12), selenium, retinoic acid metabolism-blocking agents, and a gluten-free diet in the treatment of psoriasis." (Ricketts JR, Rothe MJ, Grant-Kels JM. Nutrition and psoriasis. Clin Dermatol. 2010 Nov-Dec;28(6):615-26. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21034986)
Psoriasis is Linked to Zinc Deficiency
Zinc "Deficiency symptoms include growth retardation (as related to protein metabolism), delayed sexual development, mild anemia, decreased taste sensation (hypogeusia), decreased or loss of sense of smell (hyposmia or anosmia), delayed wound healing, alopecia, glossitis, angular stomatitis, and diverse forms of skin lesions (including eczema, psoriasis, acne). Night blindness, associated with an inability to mobilize retinol from the liver, may also be caused by zinc deficiency."

Balanced Omega 6/3 Ratio Improves Psoriasis and Other Diseases:
"Generally speaking, when the dietary balance is too much in favour of omega-6 EFAs, inflammatory tendencies tend to be promoted. But these can be prevented, or even reversed, by consuming more omega-3 EFAs (and less omega-6 EFAs). This is why supplementing with cod liver oil can greatly reduce the severity of many inflammatory conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, Crohn’s disease, eczema and psoriasis."

Vitamin D Cleared Up Psoriasis:
"The psoriasis cleared up during the summer on the paleo diet, but then it *always* tends to clear up during the summer. It [came] back in the fall. Finally I had the idea -- one that I should have thought of about 30 years ago -- of taking a vitamin D supplement. It cleared up the psoriasis. Fish oils (not just cod liver oil) tend to be good sources of vitamin D, which is further evidence that some of us have a greater metabolic need for these oils than others do." --Todd Moody, [email protected], Sat, 31 Jan 1998, http://listserv.icors.org/ARCHIVES/PALEOFOOD.HTML
Fermented and Paleo Foods and Sunlight (Vitamin D) Cleared Up Psoriasis:
"My dad's psoriasis has healed up really well and very quickly trying some of the foods I eat (mostly fermented foods tho some paleo too), he eats them off and on.
When he doesn't eat them very often or much it does come back. His is naturally less problematic in the summer (being out in the sun...vit D?) and worse in the winter.(Utah)
I am of the opinion, from my study and experience, that dense nutrition can very quickly heal up even very severe disease, so I don't believe it takes months or even weeks. If [you're] interested here is my food journal link.
http://www.rawpaleodietforum.com/journals/mdee's-journalblog/
Sugar and starch always make it worse (my dad's observation) and that is very true for me, except my skin condition is severe acne.
You can heal it.
... I wouldn't recommend fruits.
IMO sugar is problematic for the body....no matter the kind or source. From fruit, processed sugar, milk.....to starch and veggies. Cooked or raw.
Not saying one can't have pretty solid health and eat sugar they can, but i believe there is always a cost to sugar and that is slows down healing." - MDee, December 12, 2011, http://www.rawpaleodietforum.com/health/cure-psoriasis-advices/msg81592/#msg81592

"I just wanted to let you know my recent experience with clearing psoriasis. I am 35 and have had psoriasis since I was 8 years old on one knee and elbow. Since I was 23 the number of spots have increased every year. I recently went for a physical and asked to be tested for a wheat allergy because I enjoyed wheat beer so much more than regular beer, but it made my skin feel worse the next day. Other than this I had no reason to think I was allergic to wheat. The test showed I had an intolerance to wheat ( Celiac Disease ). Basically ingesting wheat/rye/barley was killing my intestines. I immediately stopped eating these foods (and all milk products) and began boiling dishes of chicken, vegetables, and rice. I felt great after 3 days on this new diet! All of my psoriasis sites stopped itching! I have been clearing since I started my diet 2 weeks ago. My skin is still healing and is discolored, but it is smooth!! I am at the same time taking Nystatin several times a day because I thought I might have more yeast than I should (causing leaky gut), but I can tell you that the gluten-free diet is what is making the difference and healing my intestines. I think the 'leaky gut' theory caused by gluten is a good theory for my case. I am also staying away from baked, fried foods as they have (since 2002) been found to have a high rate of Acrylamide which is a carcinogen. I'm hypothesizing that the acrylamide is getting through my inflamed, porous, intestine and aggravating/causing psoriasis." - UVB, May 04, 2008

"Diseases that have already been shown to respond are: asthma, autism, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, eczema, hay fever and allergies of all kinds, irritable bowel syndrome, migraine, multiple sclerosis, psoriasis and Sjogren's Syndrome. Response of patients with ulcerative colitis to hookworm alone has not been as good as hoped, but it seems to get much better using whipworm."
